Research area
Dion Jakobs is a PhD candidate in the Sustainable Process Systems Engineering Lab at ETH Zürch, supervised by Prof. Gonzalo Guillén Gosálbez. He holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from RWTH Aachen, where he wrote his thesis in collaboration with Imperial College London on the optimal integration and design of high-temperature proton exchange membranes for industrial cogeneration via MINLP optimization.
His current research focuses on identifying novel sustainable production routes for the chemical industry, with an emphasis on surrogate modeling, mathematical programming, optimization, and sustainability. He also works as a teaching assistant in the course “Process Design and Development”, and advises master student projects and theses in the areas of machine learning, optimization, and sustainable process design. Dion is broadly interested in mathematical programming and sustainable process design applied to the chemical industry and contributes actively to the academic life of the group.
