Javier Fernández González

Research area

Javier Fernández González is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering at ETH Zurich. He completed a PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cantabria, where he focused on assessing the economic and environmental trade-offs of implementing carbon capture and utilization technologies, with particular attention to emerging CO₂ electrochemical processes.

Javier's current research contributes to the sustainability assessment of clean alternatives for the climate transition, focusing on developing strategies to minimize material criticality and ensure a resilient defossilization of the economy. He is also actively involved in evaluating alternative low-carbon fuel and chemical production systems.

Additionally, he is engaged in teaching and mentoring MSc students.
